It is not the sole responsibility of government to compensate people who suffer risks that are insurable, the National President Association of Registered Insurance Agents (ARIAN) Olakunle Odewunmi, has said.

He stated this today at the 2024 ARIAN Insurance Walk in Lagos, adding that it is unfortunate seeing people who suffer risks, calling on the government for respite, when they ought to be compensated through insurance.

He called on the government to enforce all compulsory insurances so as to be free from donating money to victims of mishaps and also save for development of necessary public infrastructure.

On the need for the public to embrace insurance, he said insurance remains the best means to mitigate risks, stressing that with the soaring inflation in the country it is really difficult now to replace loss items without insurance mechanism.

He implored the public to save their hard earned income and leverage insurance to secure their lives and properties.

Odewunmi submitted that the insurance walk and awareness campaign, wouldn’t have come at a better time than now, that people are passing through economic challenges, stating that only insurance would help keep people from running around when the unexpected happens.

He said the association would continue to align with the industry’s Market Development and Restructuring Initiative (MDRI), submitting that insurance remains a key factor in the economic development.
