Insurance companies paid over N147.5 million claims on losses incurred from armed robbery attacks in 2015, Inspen has learnt.

According to the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), most of the claims were paid to banks across the nation. The largest claims amounting to N81 million was paid to Zenith Bank Plc by Zenith General Insurance Limited.

Worried by the high rate of armed robbery, industry observers called on governments to provide adequate and efficient security to stem the menace, adding that no meaningful progress could be made in a state of insecurity.

They also urged the public to embrace insurance and use it to mitigate their losses.
