The Institute of Directors (IoD) has elected the Managing Director/CEO, Risk Analyst Insurance Brokers Limited, Dr. (Mrs.) Funmi Babington-Ashaye, as a member of its council.

Dr. (Mrs) Babington, who is also the founder of Funmi Babington-Ashaye Foundation, emerged top in the keenly contested election, which had eight participants.

Over the years, she has being on the forefront of leaders, as she was former Managing Director/Chief Executive, Cornerstone Insurance Plc; NICON Insurance Plc and past President, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria amongst other positions.

She was also recognised amongst top distinguished women in insurance across Africa, by the African Insurance Organisation (AIO) at its just concluded 48th annual conference in Nairobi, Kenya.

Dr. (Mrs) Babington-Ashaye, also recently emerged winner of the Lagos Female Entrepreneur (LAFE) 2021 awards, besting eleven other women entrepreneurs, including Linda Ikeji, Tara Fela-Durotoye, Ola Orekunrin, Bilikiss Adebiyi, Kofo Akinkugbe, Deola Sagoe, and Adenike Ogunlesi and other nominees.

The LAFE award promotes and celebrate females who founded and have recorded successes in their business(es). Other dignitaries at the event included the renowned Pharmacist and Owner of Emzor Pharmaceutical, Mrs Stella Okoli, fashion Icon, Opral Benson and Erelu Abiola Dosunmu and other traditional leaders such as the Asoju Asa Ile Oodua, Onirisa, among others.

Other awards in her kitty are: JC’s Lepine Prize Award by Chartered Insurance Institute London in 1990. In the same year, she also emerges as the overall Best Female student in the professional Examination (CIIN). In 2007, she won WEAN (Women Entrepreneur Achievers award) in Non-Banking sector.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, an Alumnus of Lagos Business School and a Fellow of both the Chartered Insurance Institute both of Nigeria and United Kingdom.

Dr. (Mrs.) Babington-Ashaye started her insurance career with Royal Exchange Assurance Plc and later joined Cornerstone Insurance Plc as a pioneer staff in 1991 as an
underwriter in Accident department.
