The Insurers committee formed to strengthen the relationship between insurance practitioners with the National Insurance commission (NAICOM) which had suffered soon setbacks in recent time, will soon be reactivated, the Commissioner for Insurance Sunday Thomas, has said.

He disclosed this in the just concluded 2021 NAICOM seminar for Insurance Journalists in Lagos. According to him, he has met with the leadership of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) on how to bring back the committee.

Thomas noted that both parties will soon begin their usual meetings. He debunked the notion held in some quarters that the committee was killed by NAICOM, stressing that the commission could not have done that since the initiative was birthed by it.

The Insurers Committee is a body consisting of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and chief executive officers of all underwriting Insurance companies in Nigeria.

The Committee operates under a mandate to activate the industry’s change agenda, and strategically reposition the Insurance industry. The Committee was inaugurated on November 19, 2015, by the then-Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun.
