President, Professional Insurance Ladies Association (PILA), Mrs. Joyce Ojemudia, has implored members of the association to break all biases holding them back as they climb the career ladder.

In a statement released by the PILA secretariat shortly after the inauguration of the Port Harcourt chapter of PILA which coincided with the International Women’s Day 2022, Ojemudia, who also doubles as the Managing Director/CEO of foremost Life Insurer, African Alliance Insurance Plc, noted that women have a leading role to play in the overall economic growth of the country.

“Despite general perception to the contrary, we actually have leading roles to play in building our economy. Have you taken time to consider the massive value we bring in building our homes and the place of that in the entire economic space? Should we be paid for that imagine how much that would translate to. Ours is a thankless job but as professionals, we know the place of self-appraisals and continuous value. Therefore, in all we do, we should remind ourselves that we are not less, we matter a lot and without our unique giftings and abilities, the world won’t be as bright as it is today,” she said.

The PILA helmsman went on to recognize and acknowledge women in insurance for the great work they have been doing and charged them to do more to break the proverbial glass ceiling.

“I salute every woman in insurance for the value they bring to the industry, for their forthright commitment and visible impacts on the job. For those of us who have become thoroughbred, let us keep the flag flying, mentor and motivate the younger ones and imbibe a spirit of excellence and self-belief in them. An excellent spirit is a moving force very little can stop,” she concluded.

At the occasion, FL Angela Onochie of Sovereign Trust Insurance was unanimously elected as the pioneer Chairman of the Port Harcourt Chapter. She promised to give her best to ensure the best of the Chapter and PILA as an organisation.

Earlier in the day, the PILA President, FL Joyce Ojemudia, had led a contingent of PILA members to inspire students of Government Secondary School Elekahia as she gave a stirring lecture on Insurance as part of the annual PILA Career Talk.

“For us, the youths are still the future and it is important we mould and guide them from a very young age. As mothers, as leaders, it is our bounden duty to see to the overall mindset shift, academic development and moral upbringing of these ones.

“This is why the PILA Annual Career Talk, the Port Harcourt leg sponsored by African Alliance Insurance PLC, is a valid platform to contribute our bit to the development of these children,” Ojemudia said.
